Churchdown u3a Current Affairs Group.

We are a Group of 8 people at present. We meet every month on the last Friday morning of the month from 10am for about 2 hours. During the 2 hours we put the world to rights! The subjects discussed are very varied, ranging from world politics to the very small current local issues that we may have in the community, and everything in between. We are a very friendly bunch even though our political party affiliations vary as well as some of our opinions which, in itself, makes very good debate and discussion.

In addition to discussing current and recent events we occasionally undertake to study a specific event that has occurred in the past and about which we would like to learn more about. Topics that we have studied so far are The Suez Crisis (1956), The Vietnam War (1955), The Invasion of Grenada (1983), The Spanish Civil War (1936), The Korean War (1950), The Partition of India (1947) and The Tolpuddle Martyrs (1834). In addition, we have had a very comprehensive and interesting presentation and discussion on local government, its origins, evolution and function. This led to discussion of several local issues and situations.

If you would like to join us, you would be made very welcome. No prior knowledge or expertise is required, just an enquiring mind and a general interest in everything and anything political, current, recent, historic, local, national or international. Strongly held views are welcome and together we might be able to answer those little questions that you always wished that you had an answer to.
