A Surprise

A poem by Linda Laubscher

A surprise came today
to my school
From Ukraine she came
her eyes full of pain.
She just stood when I said "let's play".
I noticed her hair
just like mine but fair.
My teacher said we need to care
to be aware
of her fears of her tears.
I gave her my scarf
I made her laugh
her name is Alinka.
